One of the most hotly anticipated projects completing this year, Caruso St John’s vast gallery comprises the remodelling and expansion of a group of nineteenth century theatre workshops for client Damien Hirst. The project has been eleven years in development and opens next week with a major survey of Hirst’s holdings of work by the late John Hoyland. The severe brick exterior belies the lavishness of some of the spaces inside, notably Pharmacy 2, a restaurant that Hirst has designed in collaboration with his architects.
