The Architecture Foundation is thrilled to announce this complimentary walking tour of the Stirling Prize-winning Burntwood school by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris. The tour, which will be led by AHMM, is open to all individual members, practice members and supporters of the Architecture Foundation and will take place on Saturday 28 November.
AHMM's has transformed the school through the introduction of four new teaching pavilions, a sports hall and performing arts building integrated amongst the retained buildings.
The AF's Director, Ellis Woodman, said of the scheme:
"Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, have been incredibly canny at making the available resources go a long way. Their use of precast concrete technology, to give Burntwood an affordable but highly sculptural façade treatment is central to that achievement. Representing a redevelopment of a school campus established in 1958, the project has involved the retention of two of the original buildings. The new blocks draw on the imagery of the architecture of that era while investing it with a playful pop sensibility that is very much Allford Hall Monaghan Morris’s own."
