Master planning isn't always the top-down imposition of a grand scheme. Once connected to the river Thames and to acres of marshland the East London village of Rainham has been cut off by a series of clumsy infrastructure projects. But over the last decade a mix of architects and urban designers have been trying to reconnect Rainham to the river through a series of small, sensitive projects that might help to redefine master planning.
As part of the Architecture Foundation's investigation into the culture and conditions of Outer London this short documentary film explores Rainham through the eyes of the mix of architects who have been working there.
This film is one of a series of documentaries which relate to Doughnut: The Outer London Festival. The festival will take place in Greenwich at the Old Royal Naval College on the 5th of September.
