Futures in the Making: The Three Ecologies

Join the selected graduates as they present their respective work displayed as part of the Futures in the Making exhibition. This event allows you to hear first hand the thinking behind the diverse range of projects showcased and hear about what this group of graduates has in store next.

A team of three respondents representing each one of the ecologies "environmental", "mental" and "social" as explained by Felix Guattari in his well-known essay The Three Ecologies, will review the projects and give their feedback about these prospectives future proposals.

Respondents: 

Nerea Calvillo (environmental ecology)

Nerea Calvillo is an architect, lecturer, researcher and curator, she is interested in new technologies as design tools, environmental monitoring and collaborative production. The work produced at her office, C+ arquitectos, and her collaborative visualisation projects like In the Air have been presented, exhibited and published at international venues, such as TEDxMadrid or the Canadian Centre for Architecture. She is currently a Poiesis Fellow (NYU), lectures at University of Alicante, is Medialab-Prado Madrid´s curator of the European Urban Media Network for Connecting Cities project on Media Facades, is a PhD candidate at ETSAM and a researcher at the Citizen Sense project at Goldsmiths University of London.

Nick Axel (social ecology)

Nick Axel is an unlicensed architect, critic, and theorist, currently studying at the Centre for Research Architecture at Goldsmiths. Alongside working within a wide variety of political milieus in New York, Chile, and Spain, his work has sought to meditate on the uniquely architectural instantiation of power and has been published widely. He is currently investigating the role and potential of architecture in territories of exclusion and abandonment in the United States. www.nickaxel.net 

Gareth Owen Lloyd (mental ecology)

Gareth Owen Lloyd is an artist based in London and a graduate from Goldsmiths MFA in Fine Art. He works with the group MoreUtopia! and runs FoodFace an artist run space in Peckham. He has recently collaborated on a science fiction film in Johannesburg, held a futures workshop at The Crystal, London and has been selected for Nesta's artist showcase 2013. Recent presentations include AlterFutures, London, Outpost, Norwhich and Whitechapel Gallery, London and Ithuba Arts Gallery Johannesburg.
