The Architecture Foundation in collaboration with Create London and the London Legacy Development Corporation has competitively commissioned two shelters and a series of furniture to launch during the Open East Festival, which will celebrate the first anniversary weekend of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in July 2013.

This two-day event will fill the park with the sights, sounds, flavours, creativity and style of east London. Affordable and accessible for local residents, Open East Festival will help cement the Park’s new identity as a major hub for artistic, cultural and community activities.

Hat Projects and Momentum's playful and pragmatic response to the brief was selected as the winning design and will be activated through a series of curated events on 27 and 28 July 2013. Following this weekend the structures will be used throughout the North Park, offering visitors a space to relax and socialise.

The other shortlisted practices invited to enter the competition were: Adam Khan ArchitectsExploration ArchitectureIJP, and Lyn Atelier.
