Christmas at Number 42

3 - 20 December
Tuesday to Sunday, 7.30pm

Throughout December 2009 The Architecture Foundation is collaborating with artist, set designer and mastermind behind the lauded Pale Blue Door pop-up restaurant, Tony Hornecker. Let loose in the AF Project Space, Hornecker is creating an immersive installation for the festive season. Christmas at Number 42 is on the surface an average home in an average London street, complete with integral contemporary obsessions with all things modern, fashionable and flat packed. Yet all is not as it seems. Our guests are invited to dig a little deeper, stay for dinner and meet some of the street's revolving community of cabaret artists. Fusing dense living urbanism, the theatricality of neighbourhood gossip à la Mike Leigh and good quality dining, Christmas at Number 42 takes a look at what architecture means in the world of DIY.

Christmas at Number 42 will be open Tuesday to Sunday evening, from 3 - 20 December 2009 (doors open at 7.30pm). Visitors will be comfortably housed in various rooms, nooks and crannies throughout the different 'buildings' on both sides of the street-set: from number 12's lounge, or number 17's bedroom, to even number 32's loo - ideal for a candlelit date for two! As dinner is served a unique programme of cabaret, exploring the alternative traditions and future of the London street from a playfully different perspective, gets underway with performers Russella and A Man To Pet.

Hornecker's previous installation projects have taken place in his Dalston home and studio. This art practice has run alongside commercial and editorial work for clients such as Stella McCartney, Kylie Minogue, Bat For Lashes, Vogue and i-D, among others. Most recently, Hornecker's pop-up restaurant The Pale Blue Door became a cult London hotspot, known predominantly by word of mouth, combining the delights of hearty home-cooking with live cabaret and fantastic strangeness from some of the Capital's most exciting alternative performance talents. It was packed to the rafters with eager punters each and every night, so advanced booking for Tony's latest endeavour is highly recommended.

The AF Project Space is a new venue for experimental and cross-disciplinary projects.  Join us for Christmas at Number 42 and experience Hornecker's playful take on living in the city.
