Peter Märkli's unconventional approach, unique
technical scholarship and self-evident creativity have brought him widespread
respect within European architecture. For this talk he critically discussed his design response to the recent redevelopment of a pharmaceutical industrial site in
central Basel. The building comprises a strictly geometrical external
structure, supported by artist Jenny Holzer's LED façade, and an opulent interior with banisters by Alex Herter and typography by Bringolf Irion Vögeli.
Investigating his ideas and methods of realisation as chair was be fellow
architect, Adam Caruso of Caruso St John.
