London-based Fashion Architecture Taste (FAT) is renowned for refusing to accept the conventions of tasteful modernism. The practice’s interest in taboo subjects such as the semi-detached house has provoked, inspired, and in places, infuriated the world of architecture. It has also exposed FAT to the common supposition that provocative architects seldom realise projects, a theory that the practice has disproved.

FAT’s approach to the masterplan, extension and refurbishment of the Sint Lucas Art Academy in Boxtel, one of Holland’s leading art and design institutions, has been hailed as “pop gothic”.
