Dongtan, designed by Arup, aims to be the world’s first Eco-City: an economically vibrant, socially balanced and environmentally sustainable city, and potentially a new model for future global development. The 84km2 site is in the Shanghai Region, located at the mouth of the Yangtze Delta and in the heart of one of the most significant drivers of global economy. The first phase is expected to have a population of 25,000 people by 2010, growing to around 80,000 after 2020. Masterplanner and Arup Associate, Alejandro Gutierrez led the lecture.
