Changing London Schools

17 June - 25 July 2006

The Architecture Foundation presented an exhibition of exemplary school design completed or in design since the millennium, selected through an open competition.

Fourteen projects chosen exhibited innovative design thinking across a broad range of issues; educationally, spatially, socially, technologically and environmentally. The projects ranged in scale from inspiring classroom extensions, dynamic external spaces for schools to larger scale transformations of existing school buildings and new schools and academies. Many of the projects reflected current thinking within many of the major public programmes, including Building Schools for the Future, Private Finance Initiatives, City Academies and Community and faith Schools.

The selected projects were exhibited in the hub space at BDP during the London Biennale, and were accompanied by workshops with school children as well as a debate around the changing face of education and the learning experience of the next generation of school children.
