Ever since the Lisson Gallery opened in the early
1990s, Tony Fretton has demonstrated one of the most astute creative
intelligences in contemporary architecture. He has a particular ability to
respond to both artists and social issues within a subtle and restrained
architectural technique.
His practice had recently won the competition to design
the new British Embassy in Warsaw, which represented a great leap forward both
for Fretton's practice, and for the commissioning of architecture by the
British government.
