150 practices responded to the Tate's architectural competition for a new gallery at Bankside. Thirteen firms were shortlisted and invited to prepare schemes, and following their proposals, six were asked to develop their ideas further. The Architecture Foundation worked with Tate to develop an exhibition showcasing all thirteen schemes, including work by Renzo Piano, Tadao Ando, Rafael Moneo, David Chipperfield, Rem Koolhaas/OMA, and the winners, Herzog de Meuron. With more than 40,000 people attending, this exhibition formed the basis of a public survey on the Bankside project.
