Inland Revenue Headquarters: Competition Designs on Show

16 January - 19 January 1992

The Architecture Foundation held an exhibition of the six finalists for the competition to design the Inland Revenues new headquarters in Nottingham. Designs by Michael Hopkins, Sir Richard Rogers, Nicholas Hare, Arup Associates, Demetri Porphyrios, and Evens & Shalev were exhibited anonymously leaving visitors to guess which architect’s drawing was which.

A distinguished panel (chaired by 1991 Royal Gold Medalist, Colin Stansfield-Smith) chose three from the six finalists for the Inland Revenue to choose from. Michael Hopkins won the competition and the Headquarters were completed in 1994.

The exhibition was shown in both London and Nottingham.
