Volunteer on Papers

The Architecture Foundation is seeking volunteers to help build Papers, the festival of refugee art and architecture this week only

This week we are looking for volunteers to help build Papers, our one-day festival of refugee art and architecture at the Barbican. The festival will examine creative responses to the refugee crisis and involves a series of installations in the Barbican conservatory.

We are looking for a core team of volunteers to help create an armature of timber structures on which will be hung artworks from refugee camps across Europe. Volunteers will need to think like designers, solve problems, work as a team and be resourceful. You do not need an in-depth knowledge of the refugee crisis but should want to help.

When and what?

The festival is on from 1pm on the 12th of June with an installation window from 8am to 1pm on Sunday and a take-down window from 9am to 1pm on Monday. Ahead of Sunday we will be working on the build all week from our workshop on the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th of June.

Responsibilities include:

  • Build exhibition displays
  • Design/ print and install infographics
  • Repair and restore objects to be exhibited from Calais
  • Install and display artworks
  • Build signage
  • Assemble the Blue House
  • Create professional standard labelling for the artworks to be exhibited
