Scaffold 122: Patrick McGraw

The former architecture student, and now editor and publisher of a new experimental magazine, on architecture's cultural significance in our increasingly virtualized world.

"I think in a weird way, we're entering this post-image society. Writing is much more important now than it's ever been."

Heavy Traffic Magazine editor and publisher Patrick McGraw is on the pod this week.

Literature has the ability to capture our now terminally online consciousness. Architecture, on the other hand—a cultural form that once stood for whole epochs—has in recent decades become anachronistic, divorced from the virtual world that increasingly holds us captive. Patrick originally studied at the Architectural Association before making a shift into journalism and eventually leading a literary magazine, and in our conversation we try to bridge this gap between the worlds of architecture and fiction.
