The Architecture Foundation is delighted to present images of the completed Bankside Bikeshed prototype by Studio Meda.
The AF Design competition, run on behalf of Better Bankside Business Improvement District, sought designs for a modular, portable and secure cycle parking solution in February 2011.
Studio Meda's winning design integrated a roof structure providing shelter from the rain with the locking facilities required for the secure storage of bicycles. The result of which is a clean, robust, elegant and sustainable solution that can be instantly recognisable, and hold its own outside any of Bankside's many statement buildings.
The winner was selected by a panel of judges including: Jonathan Bell, Architecture Editor, Wallpaper* magazine; Sarah Ichioka, Director, The Architecture Foundation; Deborah Saunt, Director, DSDHA; Giles Semper, Deputy CEO, Better Bankside; Ashok Sinha, Chief Executive, London Cycling Campaign and Sarah Walton, Assistant Director, Cross River Partnership.
This competition formed part of Better Bankside's ‘Smart Green Business' Strategy, which actively promotes cycling for commuting and work related trips though its Travel Planning programme.
The Bikeshed will be commercially available in September through Marshalls Street Furniture.
