The Jellyfish theatre was awarded first prize in the Architects' Journal Small Projects Awards last night as well as winning the AJ Small Buildings Sustainability prize. The project co-commissioned by The Architecture Foundation with theatre production company, The Red Room formed part of the London Festival of Architecture 2010 and saw the creation of a 120-seater theatre made entirely from recyclced and reclaimed materials by Berlin-based artist/architect duo Koebberling & Kaltwasser. Lasting for just a few months last summer the theatre housed specially commissioned plays that dealt with the theme of climate change in our present society.
Martin Kaltwasser accepted the £1500 prize yesterday evening at a ceremony held at the Building Centre. Competition Judge Will Alsop said: ‘It's the most inventive project and was done with a certain spirit and enthusiasm."
