South Kilburn Studios extended for a further six months

We are pleased to announce that due to its success, the South Kilburn Studios project has been awarded further funding from Brent Council to continue for an additional six months.

The project, first opened in April 2011 and delivered by The Architecture Foundation in collaboration with Practice Architecture, South Kilburn Neighbourhood Trust and Brent Council, offers rent-free space to creative professionals, who in return pledge to mentor and train a local young person from the area.

The thirteen tenants of South Kilburn Studios have been working with their respective trainee to pass on the skills of their trade and build strong portfolios of work in order to aid their trainee’s future search for work.

The project is a response to the significant levels of unemployment in the Brent area and aims to support start-up businesses as well as providing opportunities and experience for a rising generation of talent.  Previously scheduled to finish in September, South Kilburn Studios will now continue until March 2012 offering further traineeship opportunities and expanding upon its public programme.

South Kilburn Studios also runs a series of weekly workshops and monthly open studios that are free and open to all members of the public. A Trainee Exhibition will go on show on 1 September allowing members of the public to see the work that has been created by the trainees over the past five months.
