Stirling prize winning architects Witherford Watson Mann began designing urban housing over twenty years ago. In their lecture at the Royal Geographical Society, Stephen Witherford and William Mann will reflect on the shift in the agenda for housing in the intervening time, speaking about three social housing projects: in Gistel, West Flanders, finished in 2015 after twelve years; in North-West Cambridge, finishing shortly; and a new Almshouse in Bermondsey, which received planning approval last year. The projects respond to constrained urban sites, forming new public and collective spaces and offering residents a balance of autonomy and sociability.
